Hydrostatic charge-circuit component. This maintains charge pressure in the hydrostatic transmission, keeping the pump and motor supplied and free of cavitation — it is a hydraulic part, not a mechanical clutch. Keep the work area and every fitting spotlessly clean during service; contamination introduced during a repair is the leading cause of repeat hydrostatic-drive failures. Purge trapped air per the service manual's bleed procedure after any fluid-side service, refill with the specified hydraulic fluid, and torque covers and fittings to spec — an under-torqued charge cover or relief valve is a common source of pressure loss.
